New SUB Architect Selection Process

The AMS is in the process of selecting an architect for the new SUB. They have asked students to select by vote a shortlist of three architectural firms from a possible seven. This is an important opportunity to have a say in what the future hub of the UBC Vancouver campus looks like.

Prospective architectural firms will give presentations April 6-9 in the SUB South Alcove (the open space behind Starbucks, facing the Aquatic Centre) at 11 a.m. and noon. Come meet the architects, check out the proposals, and ask questions!

Here’s the schedule:

April 6
Bunting Coady Architects: noon

April 7
Busby Perkins+Will: 11 a.m.
Bing Thom Architects: noon

April 8
HBBH+BH
: 11 a.m.
Cannon Design: noon

April 9
Henriquez Partners Architects / IBI Group: 11:00 a.m.
Stantec Architecture / 3XN: noon

For those of you unable to get to the presentations, each firm will also make a short video clip using footage from their presentation. They will be posted on the AMS website on April 12.

Online voting opens 8:00 a.m. on April 13 and runs until 10:00 p.m. on April 15. Please make an effort to participate and don’t forget to vote!

All UBC students are eligible. The three firms that receive the most votes will be asked to present detailed proposals and the new SUB Team will make the final selection this summer. Design work will begin in September.
