Good news out of city hall yesterday – council voted unanimously in support of the motion to legalize chicken-keeping in the City of Vancouver.
More coverage can be found in articles at the Vancouver Sun and the CBC. City Farmer has a post up with a great historical link – turns out their very first City Farmer newspaper, published in 1978, happened to cover this very issue.
Big cheers to the council for voting this through. Many challenges will need to be dealt with to make this city more chicken friendly and to provide would-be keepers with the tools they need, but the city is on the right track with this.
Up here on the Farm we really love our birds, and want more people to be able to share in the experience of caring for animals. Those of us in the office are throwing around the idea of public workshops to help equip Vancouver residents with the knowledge the need to responsibly raise chickens – keep tuned for more news on that as it develops.
