As part of its Stepping Stones to Sustainability series, Metro Vancouver is bringing Michael Ableman, author, farmer and photographer, to Vancouver on October 20th. Ableman’s latest book, Fields of Plenty, is a memoir-style account of his travels through North America on what he calls his ‘pilgrimage’ – a journey to see the fields of his fellow farmers. Now a resident and farmer on Salt Spring Island, Ableman and his family lived in California for many years. His writing is heavily influenced by the landscapes he has known – a clear passion for land and food rises from the pages of his books. If his speaking engagements are anything like his writing then this promises to be a very nice evening, and I will definitely be in attendance.
