Ginger Brew

Emily’s Ginger Brew Recipe

Ginger Brew…the perfect refresher after a morning in the field!

Ingredients:

2 liters water

1 1/4 cups sugar

Juice of 1 lemon

Juice of 1 orange

1/4 cup (packed) grated ginger root (or to taste)

1/4 tsp. champagne, ale, or if you MUST, bread yeast…

Bring water to a boil. Turn off heat and add sugar. Stir until dissolved. Add orange juice, lemon juice, and ginger. Let steep 30 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer and pour into a 2 liter soda bottle. Chill rapidly in freezer or cold water bath. When lukewarm/room temperature, add yeast and shake to mix. Leave at room temperature for approximately 1 day (champagne yeast), or until carbonation is adequate (feel pressure on bottle). Refrigerate immediately to stop yeast activity (don’t forget, or it will explode!). Enjoy!!
